Here’s what the UPS rebrand of SurePost to Ground Saver means for eCommerce merchants.

On April 2, 2025, UPS replaced the SurePost® service with Ground Saver® as its economy shipping option. If you use this service for online deliveries, understanding the changes will help you keep your shipping and delivery experience seamless.

What is UPS Ground Saver Shipping and How Does it Work?

UPS Ground Saver® (formerly UPS SurePost®) is a go-to, affordable, and reliable shipping solution for lightweight (< 10 lbs) non-urgent residential deliveries. Here are the key components of this service:

  • Delivers Monday to Friday within the 48 contiguous U.S. states.
  • Does not deliver to PO boxes, military addresses, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territories.
  • Provides package tracking and visibility via ups.com.
  • The delivery time is comparable to UPS Ground, plus 1-2 days.
  • Liability for lost or damaged packages is $20 and is free of charge.
  • Packages not delivered are returned to the sender at their expense.

UPS Ground Saver vs SurePost: What’s Changed?

With UPS Ground Saver replacing SurePost service, here are a few important changes to note:

  • UPS Ground Saver does not deliver to PO boxes or military addresses, a service that was previously available under SurePost.
  • Deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and other U.S. territories are no longer supported. However, they will be covered in the future.
  • Liability coverage has dropped from $100 per package (under SurePost) to $20.
  • UPS now handles end-to-end delivery, while USPS previously managed the last mile under SurePost.
